Update June 15, 2017: Woogie’s Indiegogo campaign was officially shut down. You can read their FAQ here.
Developed by a London-based team, Woogie is an AI-powered robot that positions itself as an “intelligent alien for curious kids.” It’s designed to make learning more interactive and discovery easier for kids. It’s not a screen like Amazon’s immensely popular Fire Kids Edition; Woogie is a cute robotic toy that rests atop any surface and spits out tidbits of interesting facts, all in an extraterrestrial voice.
Woogie is built for kids ages 6 to 12 years old. There’s no companion app required for basic interaction — kids talk to Woogie. In addition to its alienesque voice, the robot is personified through a digital face thanks to its green display. Woogie can tell jokes, riddles, and facts, and according to its Indiegogo page, Woogie knows “an encyclopedia of things.”
For parents, the Woogie app provides complete monitoring and control. For example, restricting Woogie from certain topics or scheduling a bedtime story. The premise is that Woogie can adapt to its user and provide an appropriate experience for kids of all ages.
Bogdan Coman, the founder of CEO of Woogie, explains the Indiegogo launch.
We have launched the pre-sale campaign on Indiegogo because I want to share this challenging and rewarding experience my team and I have created in the last 20 months. And for making all happen, we need $75k to finance the first production run and to place the factory order.
Woogie has landed on Earth via Indiegogo. It’s available for pre-order at $79 until June 30, and after the campaign, Woogie will retail for $139. The team behind Woogie expects to have Woogie delivered to backers in February 2018.
